New beginning
May 29, 2014
I found this artwork to be so mysterious and moving. It’s a shiny black surface with a small white light and it turns mirror-like as you come closer. The work is a reaction to the verse, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit” (John 12:24), commenting– “Art must die that it might shine anew.” The tiny light is the seed falling on the dark field inside the frame. These days I am experiencing my own new beginning– after over six years in Bosnia, I have moved to Iraq! (A slight detour in my plan to move back to the US.) I’m settling into a new life, being planted in a new patch of earth.
