Women’s day

The first celebrations of March 8 as International Women’s Day were actually held in the US at the beginning of the last century, but I had never heard of it until I came to Bosnia, where it’s a big deal– something like Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day combined! Gender equality is also now a big theme, with slogans like, “Don’t give me flowers, I want a job!” But I think my friend Marina said it best, “I want flowers AND a job.” We danced kolo (Bosnian folk dance), joked and snacked.
