Tombstone carver
January 2, 2014
Žale cemetery in Ljubljana, with its beautiful monuments. My friend I., ever since seeing Jimi Hendrix at Père Lachaise in Paris, has to see a cemetery in every city she visits. In Budapest I went to some contemporary art museums while she went to the cemetery, but in Ljubljana I couldn’t be bothered to go to anywhere on my own. And it turned out to be interesting to see the cemetery after all. Although next time I go back I will definitely go to an art museum! (How do you decide where to go when you travel with friends?)
I wonder how this guy feels about his job. How did he get into this line of work? Is it depressing? Peaceful? I didn’t get a chance to ask him.

Wow, that cemetery is gorgeous. I would have loved to have sat down with that tombstone carver and talk about his work!
