Nistagram*
The obnoxiousness of instagrammers in public settings is now an American cliché. Bloggers have also caught the bug. Eating an apple? First get a shot of that perfect crunchy bite! The hilarious thing is doing this while living in rural Bosnia. It’s like going in a time machine to a pre-iphone America. I’m not an obnoxious cliché, but rather a strange visitor with outlandish customs. When I took the photo of the bitten apple, my friend gasped with laughter. “Katie! good LORD! what WILL you think of next?!” When we passed a lady goat herder and I took out my camera, my friend screamed triumphantly–“I knew it! I knew you were going to take a photo!” The best anecdote was from my friend M, who was showing me her cell phone photo archives of friends posing, making faces, trying on sunglasses, pink wigs, etc., when suddenly there was a random photo of a lake, with ducks in it. “See Katie? When I saw this, I said to myself- Katie would take a photo of that! and so I decided to take a photo myself.”
*Nistagram is my neologism, riffing on instagram with the Bosnian word nista (nothing).
Funny stories! And I think that instagram will blow over.
Nista in Greek means feeling sleepy! So slipping into nothingness! Your story reminded me of Paul McCartney’s efforts to write songs similar to the ones Lennon wrote for the Beatles(on purpose ?) One of the most famous and successful examples being “why don’t we do it on the road” . Everything from his vocals to the ranchy lyrics and music screams Lennon.
ahhh great connection! hehe
Haha, this is so funny! I go through instagram spurts– post a lot, then nothing, post a lot. At least you’re consistent!
It’s almost like this on-going creative timeline which fuels your blog. I think that’s cool!
i’m not actually on instagram but that habit of taking selfies and random everyday photos– yes! but with a regular camera haha
i am CRACKING UP over here. you weirdo with weird foreign customs 😉 hahahaha!!!
😉
oh my gosh, this is hilarious. but that apple picture is so perfect! the shot was begging to be taken!
exactly!!! 😉
I don’t have instagram but I totally know what you mean. Instagram is so normal in America but throughout the world I’m sure it would be viewed as silly.
I don’t have instagram either… but somehow it still influences the way I take photos I think!
