Punk’s not dead

October 23, 2013

This shell used to be a charming hillside café restaurant, one of the landmark destinations of downtown Srebrenica. It’s just waiting for someone to remember that its view is as beautiful as ever before. Still, the trash is a sign that it hasn’t been completely forgotten… (When I see hollowed-out urban spaces, like this office and these tiny locales, I’m reminded of their beautiful potential.)

Beautiful place. How come it is abandoned?

it was destroyed in the war and never rebuilt… I’m not sure if it was ever privatized after the transition from socialism, or maybe the ownership is still not resolved?

You truly help me see the beauty in so many things – like run down buildings!

And I would love to be more like both of you!! Someday.

The “trash is a sign that it hasn’t been completely forgotten” is such a poetic thought… the idea of discards being hope. I agree with KLH, you have a wonderful gift of seeing beauty all around you. Lovely!

One more thing–the wall in the photo reminds me of some of your prior virtual graffiti project posts. Have you done any more with this?

nooo but maybe sometime in the future! I’d love to do a local version of the cindy Chang project “before I die” chalkboard wall…
