Lovely etudes! I found out about Ai Weiwei, a month ag, from a special issue devoted on him from reporters without frontiers. He is such a free spirit, but somehow much of his work is too conceptual to enjoy or even like, without knowledge of the actual event that generated it. But surely nowadays his stance against “authorities” is something artists should embrace and maybe imitate, even if this is harmful to their artistic output.
yes and he also plays with Chinese words to create some of his works, so there is a literal as well as socio-cultural translation needed.. quotes from his interviews are interesting to me as a manifesto. I am so interested in manifesto!!
he inspires me so much!! I have a book of interviews with him, so there will definitely be more quotes in the future… 😀 have you seen the documentary “aiweiwei: never sorry”? it’s great!
