In a jam
October 9, 2013
Apples and plums. The fruit must be boiled at very high temperatures until all the moisture evaporates and the mixture thickens. That is the way to make jam without any preservatives. You have to start before dawn and tend the fire and stir the jam all day, until you finish sometime late at night. “I get so exhausted making jam that I always pray to God that we don’t often get a good fruit harvest!”

It is a good reserve for cold winters. I guess having so many interesting things to do gets in the way! Maybe they just try to prove something with the use of time, rather than the use of money. After all time is not money, since all the money in the world can’t buy you time.
Bosnian people are so dedicated to healthy food, it really inspires me… making these preserves takes so much time and it’s not economically efficient for them, but they want to provide the best, most tasty, healthy food for their children and grandchildren… Beautiful people.
Wow, what dedication to make something without the modern (mostly yucky) chemicals!
soooo delish!
Love the title of this post! What’s you’re favorite way to use the jam?
i love jam on toast! that’s my fave. but the irony is that I never eat toast here because bosnians don’t have the same kind of sliced bread that we do… jam in cakes is good too though!
These photos are really cool! I bet the jam is delicious! š

i wish we could make this jam together! health and love over convenience. i guess we could do it in my kitchen someday but there’s something about being outside… š
