Weekend Snapshots: Zagreb

January 5, 2013

My two most recent trips (to Istanbul and Bratislava) made me think about why I travel. What am I hoping to find someplace else? Sometimes it’s easier to feel inspired in a new setting, but in 2013 I want to remind myself to be inspired at home by all the little moments along the way.

Although I can’t resist posting a few photos from Zagreb first…

I agree… I feel like I should move to Italy to paint something interesting (gondolas seem romantic!). But, sometimes my favorite paintings are just random, ordinary objects from around the house.

I love that about your paintings! yet another inspiration for me to take another look at “ordinary” things…

Something that struck me while I was in Thailand was what hadn’t changed… you can move around and change settings but you always take yourself with you!

The first two weeks were super exciting, but then after that, I quickly became my usual self again, and frequently preferred my geographically-irrelevant pursuits like reading and emailing friends to sightseeing and going out. I was in a whole different country and all I wanted to do was read Seabiscuit 😉

HAHA! exactly 🙂 honestly our trip to Bratislava was a bit like that– in the morning sure we wanted to explore the city, but by the afternoon we were already ready for lunch, coffee, shopping and chatting about more familiar topics…
